How to Prepare the Professional Experience Portion of the Resume
1How to Prepare the Professional Experience Portion of the Resume Depending on who you ask, everybody has a different idea of how the professional experience portion of the resume should be written. Should it be in the 1st person, implied 1st person, or 3rd person? Does it have to be entirely in the past tense, even if you are currently employed? The list is endless. While there are different ideas and theories on how it should be written, it must always be professionally written, articulate, streamlined, and concise. Here are some pointers to help you in drafting the professional portion of the resume.1. What Tense Should I Use: The most effective way for drafting the resume is to use the implied 1st person tense. It reads the most professional and is easy on the eyes. For example, instead of writing "Prepares and implements cost-effective strategies," you should write "Prepares and implements cost-effective strategies." Also, when you are drafting your most current position, if you are still currently employed, it should be in the present tense. If you are writing the professional experience portion of a prior position - even if it was the most recent position - it should be in the past tense.2. How long should each job section be: This answer will vary depending on whether you are a new or experienced applicant, have several achievements, or are an entry-level applicant with little experience. I usually recommend writing anywhere between 3 and 8 sentences. This varies on your experience level, but no matter what level of experience you have, remember - NO FILLER. It is important to note that the potential employer wants to know you experience, what you have done and what you can bring to the table. Therefore, do not use generalities and do not use fluffer.3. Should I use bullet-points: Yes and no. It is important to use both paragraph and bullet-points in order to make the document most effective. If you write in all paragraph form, it may lose the reader and make it difficult to read. On the other hand, if you use just bullet-points, it will lose all effectiveness and make the resume just as hard to read.4. What is the process: First, draft the job duties you performed. Then review the information and make sure it is in the proper form and grammatically correct. Next, you should draft the bullet-points, which should be examples of awards, accomplishments, and achievements. Then, review the achievements and select 2-4 of them to keep as bullet-points.There are several other issues you need to be aware of in drafting your resume, but I hope this helps!

How to Prepare a Janitorial Proposal Cover Letter
1How to Prepare a Janitorial Proposal Cover Letter Many cleaning business owners treat the cover letter of a janitorial bid as a necessary but essentially meaningless part of the proposal; simply a formality. Don't you believe it; it couldn't be further from the truth! In fact, put together the right way, and your bid cover letter can become one of your most powerful selling tools. However, as we've said, most commercial cleaning companies put very little thought, and even less effort, into preparing one. They feel compelled to include it, if for no other reason, than they think it makes them look "professional".The result is most janitorial proposal cover letters are filled with the same 'safe', but boring stuff that has been putting building owners and property managers to sleep for years such as:"Thanks for allowing us to bid" "We're bonded, licensed and insured" "We've been in business since 1997" "We appreciate your interest... blah, blah, blah."But, if it bores you, you can pretty safely assume...it's boring your prospects too! It's not the just what the cover letter says that's the problem; it's what it says about you, the cleaning contractor, that''s the real problem. And what's that?It says you didn't think it was necessary to take the time to highlight the important details, issues and areas of concern the customer told you and showed you during the bid walk through, as well as your plan for addressing them. And it's those details, hot spots and special areas of concern that get mentioned in the walk through and during your initial meeting with your prospect that hold the key to your chances of creating a powerful cover letter; one that proves, not just that you were listening, but that you understand what they want and have a plan for doing it.You need to begin to see the cover letter as a powerful tool to attract your prospect to WANT to do business with you by clearly describing how you and your company are uniquely aware of exactly what they need done and know exactly how to do it.The bid cover letter gives you that opportunity.By the way, don't misunderstand; it's perfectly ok to use some of the standard language you're used to seeing in professional bid cover letters such as "Thanks for taking the time to show us your facility" or "As you review the bid, feel free to call us with any questions."But that's just the beginning. Written properly, the cover letter to a janitorial proposal can be the place to:1. Clearly show that you have heard your prospects complaints, concerns and issues loud and clear.2. Understand them, care about them and3. Have a definite plan for solving them... and keeping them solved. For example, let's say your prospect points out they're unhappy with the condition or appearance of the following:- the grease marks on the painted doors leading to the plant - the amount of dust on top of the office cubicle dividers - the debris accumulating along the carpeted edges of the officeYou should use this list as a fantastic opportunity to highlight one or all of them in your cover letter along with the specifics of your plan to get them clean and keep them clean. When a prospective client reads through a bid cover letter with MUSCLE; one that lists not only their main concerns but the detailed plan of action, systems and procedures to correct them as well- they'll be impressed, not bored!

How to Find Jobs for Your Foreclosure Cleaning and Real Estate Contracting Business
1How to Find Jobs for Your Foreclosure Cleaning and Real Estate Contracting Business A real estate contracting company handles duties that range from lawn care, to rehabbing and building, and everything in between. A popular sub-category of real estate contractors has fast become the foreclosure cleanup business.A foreclosure cleanup company performs tasks such as general cleaning, changing locks, and boarding up windows and doors of vacant and abandoned homes to keep vagrants from entering. They also handle lawn care and regular yard maintenance of properties in pre-foreclosure, or that have been foreclosed upon, to minor repairs, interior and sometimes exterior painting, winterization of homes, interior trash outs, debris removal, and more.Landing Work Orders for Your Foreclosure Cleanup CompanyAs a foreclosure cleaning company, there are several ways to find jobs, or "work orders" for your company. The primary gold mine in foreclosure cleanup work lies in contacting larger companies who have the jobs to outsource. One of the most effective ways to initiate contact with a larger company outsourcing work is directly, often via online vendor applications. However, many larger property preservation companies are increasingly advertising online. They are soliciting help for both salaried, corporate positions, as well for lucrative frontline, trash-out and cleanup jobs.Online Job BoardsOnline job boards are fertile outlets for foreclosure cleanup work, if you know how to search for the plethora of opportunities. Internet job boards are divided into employment categories that range from the expected administrative, to professional career positions in, for example, the legal and medical fields. But now it's not uncommon to see many formal job boards with entire foreclosure cleanup-type categories that previously were housed under Real Estate.Property Preservation has become a popular job category on internet job boards. Websites such as the popular Monster, Career Builder, and the lesser known and newer job boards like Juju, The Ladders, Simply Hired and the like, all list property preservation jobs.Viable Jobs Less Visible Under Other Real Estate Job CategoriesIt helps to know under which categories to search for property preservation and foreclosure cleanup type jobs.Construction Category: Though "Property Preservation" has become a more used job category than in the past, some jobs are still further cloaked under less visible categories such as "Construction."Mortgage Field Services:Another category under which foreclosure cleaning and real estate contracting companies such as lawn maintenance businesses should seek jobs is the "Mortgage Field Services" category. This is actually a formal industry term that is a vital fiber in the fabric of the real estate and property preservation industry. But many new foreclosure cleanup and real estate contracting companies may overlook using it in their job search efforts. When you research foreclosure cleanup and real estate contracting jobs for your small business, include the Contracting and Mortgage Field Services sub-banners in your search for jobs to propel your company.Sample Job PostingsHere is a sample job description for a position that was recently posted on one of the larger, well-known job boards that was cloaked under the following category: Construction/Facilities; Skilled Labor:"EXPERIENCED PROFESSIONALS IN PROPERTY PRESERVATION TO HUD GUIDELINES ONLY SHOULD APPLY. [Company] is looking for an experienced Field Technician to handle the [County Names]. Candidate must have their own work vehicle and tools. It is a necessity that candidates have experience in property preservation to HUD guidelines, and understand the proper procedures for all areas of this business including winterizations. For serious consideration, candidates should e-mail their resume to [Email Address].The above job posting is an excellent opportunity for a properly licensed and insured foreclosure cleanup business.Finding Jobs via Classified Ads WebsitesEven classified ad websites have become popular outlets for property preservation, foreclosure cleaning and real estate contracting jobs such as lawn maintenance. To find the job opportunities, visit classified ad websites (such as Craigslist and Backpage) for specific property preservation and mortgage field services jobs. Many of the larger, more formal property preservation companies have a hard time finding smaller companies who are properly licensed, insured and structured to handle the foreclosure cleaning volume a market riddled with foreclosures is spewing. To begin your search for specific jobs in your geographic area, compile a list of property preservation companies, which are excellent, direct job outlet with online vendor applications.

1Easy Way With Examples of Resumes Examples of resumes can be easily obtained by use of the Internet. If you are unable to use the Internet from the comfort of your own home, there are many alternatives: any public library, schools, and location of employment, friends and family. There are also many locations that specialize in assisting people who need to find employment; these places will not only show you appropriate models, but in most cases they will provide programs that walk you through the process in an easy fashion. Many people strive to achieve a cutting edge in the employment market by investigating the most state-of-the-art format before preparing the presentation of their work history, prior to conducting a job hunt. These people desire input on how the present-day work-field will view them if they are not conforming to the standards of today's resume.A well formatted resume will deliver a broad spectrum of information in a condensed, easy to locate layout. There is a format that has been time-tested as being effective, both in presentation, and because of its easy referencing of data, regarding the prospective employee's work ethics, and employment history in a standard format. It depicts time-tables, responsibilities, duties performed in previous job settings, along with work and non-work related accomplishments (although work relative successes are advised). In this layout, the job-seeker gives the prospective employer his/her name, address, contact number(s), and an e-mail address where correspondences may be sent. Below is an example of this, you will see that it portrays these exact attributes that are not only easy for the job-seeker to build their layout, but also for the interviewer to work through at a steady pace, while working into specific lines of questioning they may have in mind for the hopeful candidate of an open position.John Doe555 55th STCity; State 84401Home Phone: (555) 555-5555{YourEmailHere}Work Experience:04/0007 - 07/0008 Taking Your Money Hotel and Casino {City, State}Blackjack Dealer- Maintaining customer service based gaming. Here are some sure-fire ways to get the creative juices burning.Create a quiet/no interruption zone. This may seem obvious, but if you think about it, is your work-area truly conducive to work? Light a candle, turn off the television, and put on some soft music.Call a former co-worker. Ask them what they liked most about your work. They may give you important insight into your work that you are missing. Of course, if they say "nothing", hang up and call someone else.Play. Whether it is with your family, by yourself, or with your pets, have some fun. Roll around on the floor and giggle. Dance around the house. Sing at the top of your lungs. Cover Letters that Get Job Interviews
1Cover Letters that Get Job Interviews In the slow economy Americans now face, with the job market shrinking just a little bit every day, the competition is fiercer than ever to find and secure good-paying, skilled jobs in a number of fields. As popular as the resume may be in helping land the coveted interview and a shot at the big time, no less important is the cover letter that accompanies it. A very good reason for this? Employers want to see a sample of your communication skills, whether or not you can convey your thoughts well in written form, and in turn put those same skills to proper use in a position with their company. A resume, while professional enough, lacks a certain 'heart'. The resume is almost automatic, robotic in its presentation, and written without any real flair or passion or charisma that so many employers most want to see. How can you really express yourself from the inside in a resume, apart from presenting your skills, your education and a brief background of your experience? The cover letter, or the letter of introduction, when included with a resume, puts you at the top of the 'slush pile' of applicants, and when written correctly, shows the employer your personality. If that sounds silly, think a moment about your attitude when you read about a job opening. Are you excited about it, because you fit the qualifications perfectly? Or are you less than enthusiastic about it, and figure 'What the heck, I'll apply.'? First off, don't apply for the job if it doesn't fit your needs. This letter is going to illustrate your FEELINGS, so make sure you are really excited about this particular job position, and you think that it meets your expectations 100%.Writing the OpeningStart out with your basic formal and courteous greeting. Identify yourself, where you live, your reason for writing, and what you are looking for. Some examples:"Dear Mr. Temple:My name is Paul Ryan, from Cleveland, Ohio. I've been an engineer for approximately 10 years, but was recently laid off after a series of cutbacks initiated by upper management. I read about a job opening in the Plain Dealer last Friday, and after looking through the needed requirements, the skills being sought and the location for the job, this particular position would be a perfect fit for me.""To the management of Empress Maids:Hello! My name is Carol Wilde, a recent arrival to your city from Los Angeles. My reason for writing to you today is in response to an advertisement that was seen at my local library, requesting the need for someone to assist in administration duties with Empress Maids Cleaning Service. Having been a housekeeper for several years, along with possessing clerical and secretarial skills, it seemed a great idea for me to apply and offer my resume."Notice that the pronoun "I" is not used heavily. You want the employer to see you as confident, not arrogant. Nothing turns off an employer faster than saying, "I can do this, I can do that. I feel qualified. I am the man (or woman) for the job." Also, it's a good idea not to go overboard with long words, or unnecessary verbiage. Ask any screenwriter -- it's very difficult to express tone and mood through words alone. The two examples show applicants who seem motivated, excited and friendly. As this is the first part of your letter, it's the 'establishing shot', so to speak.A Little About MeAgain, try not to go on and on about yourself. Remember, it's a "little". Just talk about your experiences for a few sentences, and any notable highlights you feel are important or interesting enough to warrant mentioning because it can have an impact on the employer's decision in the long run. Remember that you have a resume that tells about your experience too, so don't get carried away and talk too much about one particular job or position. Let's see what Paul and Carol write next:Paul: "Hanover Incorporated has been my primary place of employment the last ten years, since graduating with Honors from Pitt University in 1997. I was very fortunate to have bumped into this position after meeting with my career counselor, Brenda Baxter, in my senior year, and she was very helpful in getting me in the door. Since that time, my duties varied from field work to blueprints and technical applications. My concentration in the past few years has been in the field of digital designs and CAD, which is one of the main requirements you are seeking for the engineering candidacy at Temple Inc. My work was also instrumental in the design and construction of a power plant currently located in Toledo, Ohio, now offering electricity to nearly 500,000 people."Smooth, Paul. This is excellent. Already we know a little more about Paul's expertise, his education and some significant events. Notice too that we can tell that Paul is able to work well with others, and is obviously quick to give credit where it is due. Paul would be effective in a supervisory role at some point, no question about that. Mr. Temple would certainly look at Paul as a good choice so far!Carol: "My background in housekeeping spans approximately 20 years, actually for as long as my twin sons have lived within the family home. Since they have gone away to law school now, I felt it was a good time to re-enter the work force. My clerical and office skills come from my years before marriage, when I worked part-time in between college degrees as a data entry supervisor, responsible for maintaining databases, producing reports and handling numerous job requests from my co-workers, such as light computer repair, spell-checking and phone calls. My experiences in a bustling office environment, combined with several years of knowledge in housekeeping and good cleaning skills, make me a good candidate for the position of Administrator for Empress Maids."Very well done, Carol. In a few sentences, she tells us that she's a wonderful mother who has provided for her family, has exceptional clerical and administrative skills, and is really confident about what she can do. We can tell she obviously has done a great job raising her sons, if they are off to law school -- and she's well-educated herself. From here, we can see that she's competent, versatile and determined. These are some amazing qualities employers really want to see that stand out from the pack.In ClosingIt's important to thank the employer for his or her time, and mention the resume if you like. You do not really need to say anything else. Do NOT try "I really hope you hire me." or "I really need this job." or even "You'll be very glad you picked me." That just defeats the message you were trying to convey to the employer in the first place.Paul: "In closing, thank you very much for your time and the consideration of the enclosed resume. Have a great week and hope to hear from you."Sincerely,Paul Ryan-------------Carol: "I hope my resume meets with your approval. Thank you very much for your time and am looking forward to a possible interview with you in the future."Respectfully,Carol WildeThat's it. Short and sweet. Your cover letter should segue seamlessly to your resume. When the employer has had a chance to see a little of your communication and writing techniques, and a peek into your personality, you can be sure that the employer will consider it a pleasure to meet you face to face. It can also guarantee that your resume will get a lot more than a casual once-over -- provided your resume is just as hot, of course!

Compliance Jobs - Targeting Your Compliance CV For Better Interview Results
1Compliance Jobs - Targeting Your Compliance CV For Better Interview Results In our experience some hiring managers will have a certain CV/person they are looking for. If you don't fit the bill, no amount of CV re-jigging will help. The percentage of these types of hiring managers is difficult to estimate, but be assured CV targeting will increase your chances overall of getting an interview. We've had many situations (as compliance recruiters) where we've sent a particularly good CV only to find the hiring manager has rejected it. After a quick conversation we have discovered that the hiring manager was particularly busy and hasn't had to an opportunity to read the whole CV thoroughly, thereby missing the relevant and very good experience that particular candidate possessed. Do not underestimate how busy a hiring manager can be. Recruitment is probably 5% of their job. Many of these 'busy manager' situations have been turned around resulting in interviews and successful hires. If you are not using a recruitment consultant and are applying to jobs directly then you don't have someone checking up on your CV's progress and persisting on your behalf. Our guess is that your CV will land in the inbox of a very busy internal recruiter or hiring manager who is going to spend 20 seconds on your CV maximum. If they don't see what they want in those 20 seconds then you're in the reject folder with the click of a button.Have we sold you on the idea of targeting your CV yet? We hope so.Here is how to do it:1. Dissect the job descriptionThe job description will probably contain at least one major piece of technological wizardry you need to know e.g. Charles River Compliance. There is also likely to be the requirement to understand relevant financial products like derivatives, but perhaps more importantly to understand the sourcebooks that relate to them. The FSA has its handbook (which I'm sure you know is vast) and within the handbook there are various sourcebooks that are contained within blocks. So for example under the Prudential Standards block you will have up to 11 sourcebooks e.g.a. General Prudential sourcebook (GENPRU)b. Prudential Sourcebook for Banks, Building Societies and Investment Firms (BIPRU)c. Prudential sourcebook for Insurers (INSPRU)d. Prudential sourcebook for Mortgage and Home Finance Firms, and Insurance Intermediaries (MIPRU) etc...You may see some of these individual sourcebooks referenced in the job description. If you don't know these individual sourcebooks its important to at least demonstrate you can either learn them quickly or that some of your other sourcebook knowledge can overlap with the sourcebooks asked for.You need to gather what you think are the five most important requirements in the job description. This will largely have to be based on your own judgement. It's certainly not an easy task. Once you have the top five requirements from the job description you are ready for the next step.2. Writing a powerful and targeted CVTo give the process of targeting your CV balance, you should not spend too much time making it unique to each job application. By making the process relatively quick you are still investing time in applying for each job properly but not investing so much time whereby you become disillusioned by the work it entails and start sending out one generic CV in frustration. The method we recommend is to include 5 bullet points at the very start of your CV that answer the most important requirements you identified in the job description. If you feel this method is adding somewhat to the length of your CV and you have a profile statement, get rid of the profile statement. Typically, profile statements are littered with sentences like 'works well in a team and individually'. This says nothing about you so if your profile statement sounds a bit generic and you wrote one because 'everyone else has one' then delete it and replace it with our targeted list.Firstly, the targeted bullet point method ensures that your most relevant information is first, which is one of our CV writing rules. Secondly, it will greatly increase your chances of making an internal recruiter or hiring manager read on past the initial 20-second glance. A well-targeted list creates attention, next your most recent experience will create interest, by the time the reader has read your whole CV there should be the desire to act and invite you for interview. A targeted list should start off that chain of events leading to the invite for an interview. It's that initial glance where most CV's fall down. That's where your CV is most vulnerable.Secondly, we'll end with a quick example to help you. This example is going to be blindly obvious and would only work where you can demonstrate a clean fit the job description. In future articles we will write more about how to write a targeted bullet point list when you are not a neat fit for the job on offer. The following text is from a job description for a Compliance Officer working in an Investment Bank in the fixed income division. We've highlighted the most tangible and key knowledge requirements:"ResponsibilitiesProactively provide compliance and regulatory advisory services to fixed income business lines and the relevant support/operational functions covering fixed income, credit, interest rate and currency activities, ensuring that the advice provided is suited to the needs of the business lines.Advising on compliance and regulatory aspects of new products and participate in New Products CommitteeProactively maintain relationships and open communication with, and actively promote Compliance in front of, business lines and other control functions, providing support where necessary to address compliance requirements at earliest opportunity.Active participation in the process of maintaining the risk cartography, ensuring that the inherent regulatory risks posed by business activity are determined, the mitigating factors assessed to determine the residual risk and the actions required to further mitigate, or reduce, the regulatory risk.Active engagement and liaison with the Monitoring Unit responsible for day-to-day transaction monitoring and periodic desk reviews of the fixed income, interest rate and forex derivatives Business Lines, ensuring appropriate support and guidance in the development of product knowledge within the Monitoring UnitLiase with Policy and Training Compliance Officer in respect of any new regulation and their impact on the business line.Develop and deliver appropriate regulatory training for the business line using one-to-one and classroom methodologies..."Immediately we should be able to draw out some relevant bullet points:- 4 years compliance experience in fixed income, credit, interest rate and currency activities.- During the first month in my existing role key relationships were formed resulting in a measurable reduction in regulatory risk.- Enacted a quarterly program of compliance reviews design to engage with new departments to overcome potential residual risk.- 4 years experience working with the monitoring function in current role- Responsible for creating and teaching new regulatory guidelines issued by the FSA, where there was previously little or no training. The above list isn't going to suit everyone's taste but the purpose is to highlight the usefulness of targeting your CV. By dissecting the job description, even on a superficial level, and writing relevant bullet points you are giving the hiring manager/internal recruiter the most appropriate information to make a decision to interview. Make the bullet points tangible using timelines and numbers. It's not always possible to make every point tangible but you should at least be thinking about how to incorporate this. Often it's the requirements around communication skills that are the most difficult to make specific because communication skills are subjective in nature.Targeting your CV is not going to be very easy at first. It can be difficult to keep your list to 5 bullet points, but don't be tempted to write more. Less is more in this case. Be kind to the reader by offering tangible numbers and timelines, and by keeping it short. This should significantly improve your chances of an interview.

Accounting Cover Letter - How Templates Keep You Jobless
Accounting Cover Letter - How Templates Keep You Jobless I had no idea my accounting cover letter was keeping me from landing a job. I didn't see it that way at first but the longer it took the more I felt it was me and not the job market, like I had told myself. A good friend of mine and I both were looking for employment and she had already found a place to work for and I was still in the hunt. She asked me about my resume and the letter I was using to present it. I told her I found a good template online and I was using that one. She mentioned reading that it wasn't a good idea to use those and should consider changing it. She also told me about using them herself to get started right away on the job search. I know, I told myself the same thing. I'll change it next time. I'm short on time today. Nobody will notice.BINGO! NOBODY WILL NOTICE!That's exactly the problem with accounting cover letter templates. You want to stand out and be the obvious choice for the interviewer. You can't make it to the interview if they don't notice you. Standing out takes more creativity. The templates are good if you don't mind looking for a job longer than you should have too.Keep in mind that employers have probably seen tons of them already. Perhaps right before they looked at yours! Which candidate would you call? The one that stands out and fits the part or the one that didn't even write a custom letter! If your accounting cover letter template is simply an introduction, get your pen and paper and start on it right now.Accounting cover letter templates introduce your resume. A custom letter paints a picture of how you are the obvious choice for the job description they give you. You see if they give you a description of what the hire will be doing. They've given you all you need to use on your letter to be at the top of the list. Paint a picture of how you can execute those tasks they've already told you, will be expected. If you have experience point it out on cover letter with bullets to make it easy to read.Of course this means you'll have to create a custom accounting cover letter for each individual company you apply too and I'll tell you, it's a small price to pay for a shorter job hunting period.
